Redbud Roasters Coffee Shop – New and Improved

In Coffeehouse, Roast on March 31, 2015 at 3:54 pm

We have been working hard on the coffee shop to keep improving it. We opened in August, 2014, after a hard month of renovating the space and getting it ready. After that marathon of painting, plumbing, roasting exhaust and decorating, we took a bit of a break and let the shop settle down. But with 2015’s new Spring energy and promise of warmer weather, we got a second wind to do some more improvements.

Austin has been continuously improving his coffee roaster exhaust. Luckily this old building had an existing chimney in a perfect location. But the residual smoke continued to stay in the room, and would fill the shop with smoke. This was remedied with some new wider stove pipes, a hood vent to suck the smoke out and box fans. Austin and the customers are breathing easier now.

We built some shelves to keep our cups handy, and display our new line of teas, as well as our various brewing methods. We offer coffee via French press, unless someone asks for an alternative. The options include aeropress, chemex, and pourover cone. We also brew all of our espresso drinks with a La Pavoni manual press espresso machine. Many say it is the best in town!

Our new herbal infusion teas that we offer come from Suzi’s Naturals, who only sources the best organic products. We have yerba mate, roobis, peppermint, chai, hibiscus zinger and a relaxing chamomile blend. We also got new loose leaf teas that are direct trade from ancient Chinese tea plantations through West China Tea Company and More Tea, some new companies out of Austin, TX.

And lastly, we built a new kegerator to house kombucha and nitrogenated cold brew on tap. We are excited for all of these high quality additions to our menu.

A New Redbud Roasters Coffee Shop

In Coffeehouse, Crowdfunding, General, The Van Zant Life on August 1, 2014 at 3:34 pm

Remember when we had a crowdfunding campaign in April, 2013 and many of you donated, but we didn’t reach our goal, so we didn’t build a shop a that other place, but instead got a coffee trailer and set it up at the Hitch for a year? Well, now the shop that we were truly meant to be at has come our way and everything has gone right, and we moved the roaster in last night, and it is really happening!!!

Space before paint

Oh my goodness! I can hardly believe we are opening a Redbud Roasters coffee shop! The Certificate of Occupancy was approved and we can open in early August, after the health inspection. Somebody pinch me because I am still not convinced that it is real. Come see us at 169 S. LBJ Dr. in San Marcos, TX within the next few weeks!

Coffeehouse under construction

In Brew, Coffeehouse, Crowdfunding, General, The Van Zant Life on March 30, 2013 at 4:42 pm

We started to lease this old liquor store in February. It had been vacant for about a year. We jumped on the opportunity, because there was another business interested in the building and we had to get it before it got scooped up. It is in a prime location. It has a drive through, and we will be the only coffee drive through other than Starbucks at the outlet mall. It is on the main road into town from the highway.

We hired Jon Stone of Green Moon to come up with a design for the renovation.

We have a crowdfunding campaign that will cover about 1/3 of the cost, and we are working on securing the rest of the funding simultaneously.
